Review: Bioderma, Photoderm AKN Mat SPF 30

Because nothing looks better at your fifties than sunscreen in your twenties, actually if you start earlier even better. SPF such a topic to speak about, I’m actually writing a guide with all the information as there are so many myths and inaccurate information about this step, one I would share right now, SPF has to be used the entire year not just in the summer, even if it’s cloudy.

I have been trying out some Bioderma SPF products, they do actually have a very nice selection so I will be talking of the ones I manage to try. Today it will be the Photoderm AKN Mat SPF 30, which is mainly for combination, oily skin and prone to acne skin, although my skin has a been a quite dry lately. This product has a special treatment called Fluidactiv™ (patent in Photoderm AKN Mat) changes in sebum fluidity can be responsible for skin blemishes. This patented Fluidactiv complex fights against sebum thickening, in order to keep pores from becoming clogged and to minimise the risk of blemishes appearing.

This is something I quite liked because we see SPF with matte effect thinking it’s a solution but then the skin looks so dry and dull and we still get the risk of clogging pores. I use serum or essence then moisturiser to nourish my skin to then apply the SPF, the Photoderm AKN Mat worked very well as it allowed me to keep my normal morning routine without worrying that the combination of moisturiser and SPF leaves my skin greasy, neither too dry, obviously it must be re-applied every 3 hours, what I normally do is spray some thermal water, let it dry and re-apply the sunscreen.

It worked really well even during the warmest days here in the South, I didn’t get any breakouts or reaction considering that my skin is quite sensitive, the protection (keeping in mind to re-apply) worked very well, when I don’t get enough protection or the product is not good enough I tend to get redness pretty fast.
