A sudden shower cooling the air: the romantic smell of London after a rainsquall when water has washed away frivolity, leaving only a zesty and triumphant breeze with a soft echo of the storm. The strength of bergamot, cardamom and violet is tempered by birch tree and a dusting of patchouli.

Another non conventional fragrance by Vilhelm Parfumerie, when I saw the name I quickly thought about the average citrus scent, but then again you see the word “black” so ok it might a dark citrus so I needed to try it out. Now this is the kind of fragrance you certainly need to try on skin because it’s totally different on paper, when I said is no a conventional perfume is because this is not a bright citrus, it does open up fresh and citrusy with the bergamot and cardamom but very fast starts to dry down like a earthy bitter herbal scent and this is the mate leaves, now “maté” is a South American infusion that slowly started to become an accord used in luxury niche perfumery, is kind of similar to a strong matcha tea, so basically we have a fresh citrus opening that slowly becomes bitter and herbal so once the birch, vetiver and patchouli start to show up it becomes not so much a green scent but an earthy dark fresh, or a woody earthy scent, like the forest after the rain. It’s a perfume with a lot of personality and clearly unisex, it has good projection and about 6 hours with a good sillage till it becomes a skin scent, it’s not overwhelming or invasive towards other or even the same person who wears it. This is good for summer but it can be easily be used the entire year because it’s not the classic citrus scent that screams holiday, it’s actually sophisticated and minimalist and somehow complex because you won’t find anything at least in the designers fragrances that smell similar, I would say this is an elegant sport or chic street scent.
