Some time ago I reviewed Fleur Burlesque by Vilhelm Parfumerie and mentioned about the feminine inspiration that fragrance has from La Belle Epoque and the Moulin Rouge can can dancers, today following the line we jump to the beginning of the 20’s with a unisex scent that intends to catch the atmosphere of those years.
Chicago High is a tribute to the fragrance classics of the 1920s and takes us back to the glamorous era of the Roaring Twenties like an olfactory time machine. “I wanted to express that exuberant, decadent attitude to life of an era heading for its final climax – and at the same time I wanted to give an inkling that beneath the surface of all this lavish glamour there are hidden chasms – not just the decadence of a society”, says Jan Vilhelm.

Chicago High is fragrance that doesn’t to describe a person or a story but rather an atmosphere, as we previously mention it has as reference the 20’s and if we think about Chicago back then we can understand the “High” Prohibition started in the US and the jazz started to become popular, so clearly we are thinking of reduced indoor places became clandestine bars or parties venues, so Chicago High recreate the atmosphere of the champagne and other alcoholic drinks running around with touches of pineapple and bergamot, infused with honey and tobacco. A fragrance that simultaneously leaves a hint of leather, amber and patchouli, similar to the sultry smoky memory of a great, unforgettable and grandiose night out.
Is not and easy scent at the beginning you normally expect for the classic sexy woman, sexy man, love story, but no here you jump in the time machine to have a night out in a hidden bar in Chicago. Is quite different so I have to give it that, once you understand the fragrance you really start to enjoy it. Duration wise it can easily reach 8 hours and has a very nice sillage and projection. This perfume was released in 2020 together with Body Paint with a nice concept of describing a experience rather than a person.
