Review: The Body Shop, Drops Of Youth Essence Lotion

There is a bit of an upsetting feeling when a product is supposed to be great and even the girl at the shop tells you is amazing but after using it till is empty you realised that the hype wasn’t real and you basically wasted your money, this is basically happened to me with this facial essence from The Body Shop. I tend to get well with the products from this brand but sometimes they disappointment me.

I was excited to try this out as there is no much offer on facial essences in the Western Countries and the few in the market are pricey, so when I saw that The Body Shop have a couple and this was the one with a lot of good reviews in their website so I went for it.

This Lotion Essence belong to the Drops of Youth range, focused of fresher and healthier skin.

INGREDIENTS

Aqua/Water/Eau, Propanediol, Alcohol Denat., Phenoxyethanol, Betaine, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Polysorbate 20, Butylene Glycol, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Parfum/Fragrance, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Methylpropanediol, Linalool, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citronellol, Crithmum Maritimum Extract, Eryngium Maritimum Extract, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Sanguisorba Officinalis Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale Root Extract/Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, Limonene, Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum.

To be honest I should have read the ingredient list before buying it, but here we go, up in the list we have Alcohol Denat, it tend to dry and irritate the skin, causing damage if it’s used for long periods.. Perfume (fragrance), Linalool, Citronellol, Limonene (fragrance that makes skin sensitive and can cause breakouts), Sodium Hydroxide

In the good way we find a lot of moisture ingredients and plants extracted actives and Sodium Hyaluronate (similar to hyaluronic acid and actually penetrates into the skin better).

For anyone who never used essences, they are a light water-gel products that depending of the ingredients they could have different benefits for the skin, it goes after the toner and before the serum, and sometimes some people use it instead of the toner. it can be used both day and night and for younger people skin getting their first step on a complete skincare routine but don’t want to use serums yet they can easily use essences as they are quite soft and gentle. The reason why I wouldn’t purchase this product again is first the ingredients listed above, when I applied it used to leave a dry sticky effect on my skin and basically it didn’t help my skin at all, there was basically no difference between use it or not, is not terrible but is it wasn’t worth the money for me.

Drop Of Youth Essence Lotion is available in 160 ml for £15 in The Body Shop website and their shops.
