My story with removal has been always been a big drama for me, my skin is olive during the summer and pale during the winter and my hair is dark brown which makes any non pleasant to see hair very easy to actually see. I always struggled with hair removal methods, I always saw other girls saying so happily that they shave their legs or under arms and they look flawless, in my case the shaved legs for example would last me a day, the next one I would actually start to feel them like sand paper plus my legs would get full of ungrown hair. Waxing also never was good for me, my skin is very sensitive and even when the wax was almost cold still it managed to leave dark marks on my skin and it was not really good removing hair. Creams: same result as shaving, Little Classic Machines: This ones helped to make the hair growing a bit slower but I cannot resist the pain so much so normally I ended up doing half of my legs and shaving the other half.
For a while I have been looking on instagram and other blogs about IPL hair removal devices to use at home, perfect forme as I really hate going to salons and making appointments and a big plus, doesn’t cause any pain. Now the question is…What is IPL?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL Hair Removal is designed to help break the cycle of hair growth by targeting the hair root or follicle.
- Light energy is transferred through the skin’s surface and is absorbed by the melanin present in the hair shaft.
- The absorbed light energy is converted to heat energy (below the surface of the skin), which disables the hair follicle preventing further growth.
- Treated hairs naturally fall out over the course of a few days to 1-2 weeks.
Is it permanent? By my personal experience it depends on each type of person, in my case was basically permanent because I do not really have much hair or probably was to weak and the IPL managed after 12 weeks to avoid more hair to grow.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Some people says that you would probably get temporary redness on your skin, other that is a bit itchy or light a light burning sensation, I haven’t felt anything and yes my skin was a bit red for few minutes but nothing strange happened. Basically I have to shave my hair every time I use the device and during the first 3 weeks of experiment I already noticed it took a while before the hair start growing again, as I said before when I used to shave my legs for example the next day I already could feel the sand paper hair so that was already a good sign.
Weeks 4, 5 and 6 I had like patches on my legs of areas with no hair and others with very thin ones, Weeks 7, 8 and 9, it actually took me a while to do the experiment because the growing process became so slow, the tricky part was obviously the bikini area where the hair is thicker that’s why I kept going to Weeks 10, 11 and 12 where yes legs, underarms where hair free and the bikini zone was very well reduced.
It did work for me and now is my boyfriend who wants to use for his chest and back. I haven’t had any bad reaction on my skin using the Smooth Skin Muse, it’s a “long-term” process and you have to do it properly to see the results in the time the products promises some results. It’sa bit pricey (around £400) but considering the results the fact that I can do it from home and not having to go to a salon or any place and the fact that any treatment any other place would be similar price or far more expensive, I saw the results and didnt have any troubles with it so yes I actually think is a good investment or gift idea, I would totally recommend it.
You can find the Smooth Skin Muse directly on their website and is also available at Boots, John Lewis and Current Body
